- Z-Selective Fluoroalkenylation of (Hetero)Aromatic Systems by Iodonium Reagents in Palladium-Catalyzed Directed C?H Activation
-
The direct and catalytic incorporation of fluorine containing molecular motifs into organic compounds resulting high-value added chemicals represents a rapidly evolving part of synthetic methodologies, thus this area is in the focus of pharmaceutical and agrochemical research. Herein we report a stereoselective procedure for direct fluorovinylation of aromatic and heteroaromatic scaffolds. This methodology development has been realized by palladium-catalyzed ortho C?H activation reaction of aniline derivatives featuring the regioselectivity via directing groups such as secondary of tertiary amides, ureas or ketones. The application of non-symmetrical aryl(fluoroalkenyl)-iodonium salts as fluoroalkenylating agents allowed mild reaction conditions in general for this transformation. The scope and limitations have been thoroughly investigated and the feasibility has been demonstrated by more than 50 examples.

- Pd-Catalyst Containing a Hemilabile P,C-Hybrid Ligand in Amino Dicarbonylation of Aryl Halides for Synthesis of α-Ketoamides
-
The amino dicarbonylation of aryl halides affording α-ketoamides with Pd catalysts is highly dependent on the stereoelectronic properties of the involved ligands. Ionic diphosphine ligand L4 can serve as precursor of a hemilabile P,C (phosphine, carbene)-hybrid ligand to form a stable Pd(II)-complex, Pd-L4. In contrast, analogues L1-L3 with a similar 1-(thiophen-3-yl)-benzimidazolyl skeleton behave as typical (mono/di)phosphines. The catalytic system resulting from the complexation of PdCl2(MeCN)2 and L4 exhibits good catalytic performance in terms of aryl iodides conversion (81-95%) and α-ketoamide selectivity (80-91%), as well as the available recyclability in the RTIL of [Bpy]BF4. The in situ FT-IR analysis reveals that the PdCl2(MeCN)2-L4 catalytic system favors the amino dicarbonylation toward α-ketoamides according to the proposed mechanism of cycle I, which involves two independent CO-insertion steps.

- CuO-decorated magnetite-reduced graphene oxide: a robust and promising heterogeneous catalyst for the oxidative amidation of methylarenes in waterviabenzylic sp3C-H activation
-
A magnetite-reduced graphene oxide-supported CuO nanocomposite (rGO/Fe3O4-CuO) was preparedviaa facile chemical method and characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM), and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis. The catalytic activity of the rGO/Fe3O4-CuO nanocomposite was probed in the direct oxidative amidation reaction of methylarenes with free amines. Various aromatic and aliphatic amides were prepared efficiently at room temperature from cheap raw chemicals usingtert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as a “green” oxidant and low-toxicity TBAI in water. This method combines the oxidation of methylarenes and amide bond formation into a single operation. Moreover, the synthesized nanocomposites can be separated from the reaction mixtures using an external magnet and reused in six consecutive runs without a noticeable decrease in the catalytic activity.

- Sustainable triazine-based dehydro-condensation agents for amide synthesis
-
Conventional methods employed today for the synthesis of amides often lack of economic and environmental sustainability. Triazine-derived quaternary ammonium salts, e.g., 4-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-4-methylmorpholinium chloride (DMTMM(Cl)), emerged as promising dehydro-condensation agents for amide synthesis, although suffering of limited stability and high costs. In the present work, a simple protocol for the synthesis of amides mediated by 2-chloro-4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazine (CDMT) and a tert-amine has been described and data are compared to DMTMM(Cl) and other CDMT-derived quaternary ammonium salts (DMT-Ams(X), X: Cl? or ClO4?). Different tert-amines (Ams) were tested for the synthesis of various DMT-Ams(Cl), but only DMTMM(Cl) could be isolated and employed for dehydro-condensation reactions, while all CDMT/tert-amine systems tested were efficient as dehydro-condensation agents. Interestingly, in best reaction conditions, CDMT and 1,4-dimethylpiperazine gave N-phenethyl benzamide in 93% yield in 15 min, with up to half the amount of tert-amine consumption. The efficiency of CDMT/tert-amine was further compared to more stable triazine quaternary ammonium salts having a perchlorate counter anion (DMT-Ams(ClO4)). Overall CDMT/tert-amine systems appear to be a viable and more economical alternative to most dehydro-condensation agents employed today.

Multifunctional transformation of amide C-N bond cleavage is reported. The protocol applies to benzamide, thioamide, alcohols, and mercaptan under similar reaction conditions catalyzed by NaOTs. It is noteworthy that NaOTs can not only be recycled and reused for up to three cycles without significant loss in catalytic activity, but also catalyze gram-grade reactions. This study provides a novel solution with mild conditions and a simple procedure for transformation of multiple amides.

- Practical one-pot amidation of N -Alloc-, N -Boc-, and N -Cbz protected amines under mild conditions
-
A facile one-pot synthesis of amides from N-Alloc-, N-Boc-, and N-Cbz-protected amines has been described. The reactions involve the use of isocyanate intermediates, which are generated in situ in the presence of 2-chloropyridine and trifluoromethanesulfonyl anhydride, to react with Grignard reagents to produce the corresponding amides. Using this reaction protocol, a variety of N-Alloc-, N-Boc-, and N-Cbz-protected aliphatic amines and aryl amines were efficiently converted to amides with high yields. This method is highly effective for the synthesis of amides and offers a promising approach for facile amidation.

- Fluorinated solvent-assisted photocatalytic aerobic oxidative amidation of alcoholsviavisible-light-mediated HKUST-1/Cs-POMoW catalysis
-
Considering the irreplaceable importance of photocatalytic functionalization reactions and the widespread attention paid to the use of metal-organic frameworks, especially their modified variants, for this purpose in recent years, different types of HKUST-1/POMoW composites were prepared through the immobilization of a series of Keggin-type polyoxometalates (POMs; POW = H3PW12O40, POMo = H3PMo12O40, and POMoW = H3PMo6W6O40) on HKUST-1 as a metal-organic framework (HKUST-1; Cu3(1,3,5-benzenetricarboxilicacid)2). Then, to produce HKUST-1/Cs-POM, the substitution of H+cations with Cs+ones as counter cations was carried out. The prepared composites were fully characterized with the PXRD (powder X-ray diffraction), FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), BET and BJH (sorption of N2), TGA (thermo-gravimetric analysis), SEM (scanning electron microscopy), EDX (energy dispersive X-ray), TEM (transmission electron microscopy), UV-vis DRS (diffuse reflectance UV-vis spectroscopy), photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and ICP-AES (inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy) techniques. The great importance?of the amide functional group and the attractiveness of photocatalytic oxidative functionalization?reactions led us to study the formation of this functional group using the prepared catalytic system in line with our previous research in this field. The HKUST-1/Cs-POMoW composite showed a raised photocatalytic performance compared to the discrete components, HKUST-1 and Cs-POMs, in aerobic oxidative amidation of alcohols under illumination with visible light, owing to the presence of catalytically active Cs-POMs deposited on the MOF particles. Besides, the combination of composite components mitigated the recombination rate of the electron-hole pairs, raising its photocatalytic activity. The attractiveness of fluorine solvents for oxidation reactions has led to the study of their role in the efficiency of oxidative amidation of alcohols and their significant effect on the efficiency of the process has been confirmed. The Cu-MOF/POM catalyst showed excellent stability during the reaction, and no significant decrease in its ability was observed during five consecutive cycles.

- A CO2-Catalyzed Transamidation Reaction
-
Transamidation reactions are often mediated by reactive substrates in the presence of overstoichiometric activating reagents and/or transition metal catalysts. Here we report the use of CO2as a traceless catalyst: in the presence of catalytic amounts of CO2, transamidation reactions were accelerated with primary, secondary, and tertiary amide donors. Various amine nucleophiles including amino acid derivatives were tolerated, showcasing the utility of transamidation in peptide modification and polymer degradation (e.g., Nylon-6,6). In particular,N,O-dimethylhydroxyl amides (Weinreb amides) displayed a distinct reactivity in the CO2-catalyzed transamidation versus a N2atmosphere. Comparative Hammett studies and kinetic analysis were conducted to elucidate the catalytic activation mechanism of molecular CO2, which was supported by DFT calculations. We attributed the positive effect of CO2in the transamidation reaction to the stabilization of tetrahedral intermediates by covalent binding to the electrophilic CO2

- Method for synthesizing amide by using methyl arene and amine in water phase
-
The invention provides a high-efficient method of synthesizing amide with methyl aromatics and amine. In the method, with the methyl aromatics and the amine as the raw materials in the water phase and TBHP and TBAI respectively as an oxidizing agent and a catalyst, a sp3 C-H bond and a sp3 N-H bond are broken and a C-N bond is formed. Compared with a conventional method of synthesizing the amide from oxidized amide, in which an activated acyl group or amine is required, the method is carried out with water as the solvent so that the method is not only economical but also environmental-protective. The method has a very good application prospect in the field of synthesizing polypeptide, protein and drugs in future.

- Facile amidation of esters with aromatic amines promoted by lanthanide tris (amide) complexes
-
The development of catalysts capable of catalyzing amidation of esters with amines to construct amides under mild conditions is of great importance. Compared to aliphatic amines, the direct catalytic amidation of esters with less nucleophilic aromatic amines is rather difficult. Employing simple lanthanide tris (amide) complexes Ln[N (SiMe3)2]3(μ-Cl)Li (THF)3 as the catalysts, it was found a broad range of aromatic amines and esters were efficiently converted into various amides in good yields under mild conditions. A plausible mechanism for this transformation was experimentally supported as starting from an amide exchange reaction between the lanthanide tris (amide) complex and the substrate amine.

- Organophotoredox-Mediated Amide Synthesis by Coupling Alcohol and Amine through Aerobic Oxidation of Alcohol
-
The combination of an organic photocatalyst [4CzIPN (1,2,3,5-tetrakis(carbazol-9-yl)-4,6 dicyanobenzene) or 5MeOCzBN (2,3,4,5,6-pentakis(3,6-dimethoxy-9 H-carbazol-9-yl)benzonitrile)], quinuclidine, and tetra-n-butylammonium phosphate (hydrogen-bonding catalyst) was employed for amide bond formations. The hydrogen-bonded OH group activated the adjacent C?H bond of alcohols towards hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) by a radical species. The quinuclidinium radical cation, generated through single-electron oxidation of quinuclidine by the photocatalyst, employed to abstract a hydrogen atom from the α-C?H bond of alcohols selectively due to a polarity effect-produced α-hydroxyalkyl radical, which subsequently converted to the corresponding aldehyde under aerobic conditions. Then the coupling of the aldehyde and an amine formed a hemiaminal intermediate that upon photocatalytic oxidation produced the amide.

- Decarboxylative/Oxidative Amidation of Aryl α-Ketocarboxylic Acids with Nitroarenes and Nitroso Compounds in Aqueous Medium
-
The decarboxylative/oxidative amidation of aryl α-ketocarboxylic acids with 5-aryl-3-nitroisoxazole-4-carboxylates and substituted dinitrobenzenes under oxidative aqueous conditions to afford N-aryl amides is described. The reaction is suggested to proceed via a radical pathway in which a benzoyl nitroxyl radical, the key intermediate formed from reaction between nitroarene and benzoyl radical from glyoxalic acid, couples with hydroxyl radical from water to produce amide. Mechanistic insight allowed the scope of the strategy to be expanded to the synthesis of amides via reaction between aryl α-ketocarboxylic acids and nitroso compounds.

- Amine-Mediated Bond Cleavage in Oxidized Lignin Models
-
Introducing amines/ammonia into lignin cracking will allow novel bond cleavage pathways. Herein, a method of amines/ammonia-mediated bond cleavage in oxidized lignin β-O-4 models was studied using a copper catalyst at room temperature, demonstrating the effect of the amine source on the selectivity of products. For primary and secondary aliphatic amines, lignin ketone models underwent oxidative Cα?Cβ bond cleavage and Cα?N bond formation to generate aromatic amides. For ammonia, the competition between oxygen and ammonia determined the selectivity between Cα?N and Cβ?N bond formation, generating amides and α-keto amides, respectively. For tertiary amines, the lignin models underwent oxidative Cα?Cβ bond cleavage to benzoic acids. Control experiments indicated that amines act as nucleophiles attacking at the Cα or Cβ position of the oxidized β-O-4 linkage to be cleaved. This study represents a novel example that the breakage of oxidized lignin model can be regulated by amines with a copper catalyst.

GO accelerates ester to amide conversion in the absence of any additives, unlike other catalysts. A wide range of ester and amine substrates are screened to yield the respective amides in good to excellent yields. The improved catalytic activity can be ascribed to the oxygenated functionalities present on the graphene oxide surface which forms H-bonding with the reactants accelerating the reaction. The efficiency of a palladium catalyst, immobilised on a supported ionic liquid phase (SILP) with adsorbed 1-butyl-4-methylpyridinium chloride, was investigated in aminocarbonylation reactions. Double carbonylation was found to be the main reaction using different iodoarenes and aliphatic amines as substrates. Application of aniline derivatives as nucleophiles led to the exclusive formation of substituted benzamides. The stabilisation effect of the adsorbed pyridinium ionic liquid was compared to that of imidazolium and phosphonium derivatives. It was proved that the pyridinium SILP-palladium catalyst could be reused in at least 10 cycles. Recyclability was tested in five successive runs for all of the substrates.

An efficient strategy for the synthesis of benzamides from acetamides and aryl iodides using 1?mol% Pd (OAc)2 as catalyst and Cr (CO)6 as CO-precursor is described. This new synthetic methodology displays high functional group tolerance on both substrates and avoids the need for ligands, reducing agents, or other additives. The corresponding products were obtained in good to excellent yields at atmospheric pressure under mild reaction conditions.

- A Cyanide-Free Synthesis of Acylcyanides through Ru-Catalyzed C(sp3)-H-Oxidation of Benzylic Nitriles
-
A practical method for generation of acylcyanides devoid of any external cyanide sources is presented that relies on a mild Ru-catalyzed selective C?H-oxidation of benzylic nitriles. The starting materials are smoothly generated through condensation of the corresponding carboxylic acid amides using silanes. The obtained acylcyanides can be employed in a plethora of transformation as exemplified to some larger extend in the sequence of C?H-oxidation-Tischenko-rearrangement for the generation of structurally diverse benzoyloxycyanohydrines.

- Direct N-O bond formation via oxidation of amines with benzoyl peroxide
-
Herein, we report a general and efficient method for direct N-O bond formation without undesirable C-N bond (amide) formation starting from commercially available amines and benzoyl peroxide. The oxidation of 1,2-diamines to furnish bis-(benzoyloxy)-1,2-diamines is reported for the first time. We found that a significant amount of water (BPO?:?water = 3?:?1) in combination with Cs2CO3 is necessary to achieve high selectivity and yield. The reaction conditions are applicable to a wide range of 1,2-diamine and 1,2-disubstituted-1,2-diamine substrates. Additionally this method is highly applicable to primary and secondary amines. Further, the present method can access chiral bis-hydroxamic acids and bis-hydroxyl amines in just two steps from 1,2-diamines. The reaction conditions are simple, mild and inert atmosphere free. The synthetic potential of this methodology is further demonstrated in the short synthesis of a chiral BHA ligand.

- Base-Promoted Amidation and Esterification of Imidazolium Salts via Acyl C-C bond Cleavage: Access to Aromatic Amides and Esters
-
Imidazolium salts have been effectively employed as suitable acyl transfer agents in amidation and esterification in organic synthesis. The weak acyl C(O)-C imidazolium bond was exploited to generate acyl electrophiles, which further react with amines and alcohols to afford amides and esters. The broad substrate scope of anilines and benzylic amines and base-promoted conditions are the benefits of this route. Interestingly, phenol, benzylic alcohols, and a biologically active alcohol can also be subjected to esterification under the optimized conditions.

- Metal-Free Transamidation of Secondary Amides by N-C Cleavage
-
Transamidation reactions represent a fundamental chemical process involving conversion of one amide functional group into another. Herein, we report a facile, highly chemoselective method for transamidation of N-tert-butoxycarbonylation (N-Boc) activated secondary amides that proceeds under exceedingly mild conditions in the absence of any additives. Because this reaction is performed in the absence of metals, oxidants, or reductants, the reaction tolerates a large number of useful functionalities. The reaction is compatible with diverse amides and nucleophilic amines, affording the transamidation products in excellent yields through direct nucleophilic addition to the amide bond. The utility of this methodology is highlighted in the synthesis of Tigan, a commercial antiemetic, directly from the amide bond. We expect that this new metal-free transamidation will have broad implications for the development of new transformations involving direct nucleophilic addition to the amide bond as a key step.

- Hexacoppergermsesquioxanes as complexes with N-ligands: Synthesis, structure and catalytic properties
-
A simple and versatile strategy of synthesis of cage metallagermaniumsesquioxanes is demonstrated for isolation of Cu6-based phenylgermsesquioxanes 1–6. Structure of newly synthesized coppergermsesquioxanes was established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. General principle of these cages’ topology implies the presence of two linear Cu3 fragments, coordinated by three pairs of ligands. These are: (i) cyclic germsesquioxanes [PhGeO1,5]5, products 1–6, (ii) 1,10-phenanthrolines, (1, 3–5) or 2,2’-bipyridines, (2, 6), (or and (iii) OX species (X = H, 1–2, CH3, 3, H and C2H5O, 4, HCO, 5, CH3CO, 6). Appearance of non-expected species (formiate for 5, acetate for 6), resulted from corresponding alcohols used as reaction media, points at easyness of oxidation processes in the conditions of such self-assembling reactions. Catalytic tests showed high activity of complexes 1 and 2 as precatalysts in homogeneous oxidations of alkanes (cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, n-heptane, cis-1,2-dimethylcyclohexane with hydrogen peroxide in acetonitrile solution. Hydroxyl radicals take part in the reaction. The same complexes catalyze oxidation of alcohols (cyclohexanol, 2-heptanol, 1-phenylethanol) to corresponding ketones with tert-butyl hydroperoxide in almost 100% yield. With the addition of various alkyl ammonium salts, complex 2 could also furnish corresponding amides in high yield.

- Catalyst-Free, Metal-Free, and Chemoselective Transamidation of Activated Secondary Amides
-
A simple protocol, which is catalyst-free, metal-free, and chemoselective, for transamidation of activated secondary amides in ethanol as solvent under mild conditions is reported. A wide range of amines, amino acids, amino alcohols, and the substituents, which are problematic in catalyzed transamidation, are tolerated in this methodology. The transamidation reaction was successfully extended to water as the medium as well. The present methodology appears to be better than the other catalyzed transamidations reported recently.

- Supported Palladium Nanoparticles that Catalyze Aminocarbonylation of Aryl Halides with Amines using Oxalic Acid as a Sustainable CO Source
-
Polystyrene-supported palladium (Pd@PS) nanoparticles (NPs) have been used to catalyze the aminocarbonylation of aryl halides with amines using oxalic acid as a CO source for the first-time for the synthesis of amides. Furthermore, o-iodoacetophenones participated in amidation and cyclization reactions to give isoindolinones in a single step following a concerted approach. Oxalic acid has been used as a safe, environmentally benign and operationally simple ex situ sustainable CO source under double-layer-vial (DLV) system for different aminocarbonylation reactions. Catalyst stability under a CO environment is a challenging task, however, Pd@PS was found to be recyclable and applicable for a vast substrate scope avoiding regeneration steps. Easy handling of oxalic acid, additive and base-free CO generation, catalyst stability and effortless catalyst separation from the reaction mixture by filtration and introduce of DLV are the added advantages to make the overall process a sustainable approach.

- Graphene Oxide: A Metal-Free Carbocatalyst for the Synthesis of Diverse Amides under Solvent-Free Conditions
-
An environmentally friendly, inexpensive, carbocatalyst, graphene oxide (GO) promoted efficient, metal-free transamidation of various carboxamides with aliphatic, cyclic, and aromatic amines is demonstrated. The protocol is equally applicable to phthalimide, urea, and thioamide determining its adaptability. The oxygenated functionalities such as carbonyl (?C=O), epoxy (?O?), carboxyl (?COOH) and hydroxyl (?OH), present on graphene oxide surface impart acidic properties to the catalyst. The graphene oxide being heterogeneous in nature, work efficiently under solvent-free reaction conditions providing desired products in good to excellent yields. The one-pot synthesis of 2,3-Dihydro-5H-benzo[b]-1,4-thiazepin-4-one moiety by GO catalyzed Aza Michael addition followed by intramolecular transamidation is also described. A plausible reaction mechanistic pathway involving H-bonding is discussed. The graphene oxide can be recycled and reused up to five cycles without much loss in catalytic activity. - Visible-Light-Driven Oxidation of N -Alkylamides to Imides Using Oxone/H 2 O and Catalytic KBr
-
Imides are prepared conveniently by visible-light-driven oxidations of various N -alkylamides under mild conditions. The majority of the reactions proceed efficiently by using Oxone as the oxidant in the presence of a catalytic amount of KBr in H 2 O/CH 2 Cl 2 under irradiation by an 8 W white LED at room temperature. Experimental studies suggest that an imine, obtained from the substrate amide via a radical process, is the key intermediate.

-
4-(4,6-Dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-4-methylmorpholinium toluene-4-sulfonate (DMT/NMM/TsO?), a representative member of the inexpensive and environmentally-friendly N-triazinylammonium family of sulfonates, has been found to be a very effective coupling reagent for the synthesis of amides, esters and peptides in solution. This study confirms the usefulness of DMT/NMM/TsO? for peptide synthesis in solution, starting from Z-, Fmoc-, and Boc-protected substrates as well as unnatural building blocks. Peptide synthesis with DMT/NMM/TsO? produced high yields, with high crude product purity and low risk of racemization. In all cases, stoichiometric amounts of reagents were used and the standard synthetic procedure, without the need for time-consuming optimization stages or expensive chromatographic purification. DMT/NMM/TsO? was also found to be very useful for the synthesis of oligopeptides using a fragment coupling strategy.
