General Description

1,3-Benzenediol, 2-chloro-4-methoxy- is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C7H7ClO3. It is also known as guaiacol or o-methoxyphenol and is commonly found in a variety of plants such as creosote bushes, guaiacum, and wood smoke. It is used in the production of flavorings, as a precursor for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, and as a component in the production of vanilla. Guaiacol is also used as a solvent for cellulose nitrate, oils, and dyes. It is a colorless to pale yellow oily liquid with a characteristic aromatic odor and is considered to be moderately toxic when ingested or inhaled.
