is important to achieve selective hydroxylation. Ag/TiO and

Cu/TiO lead to a higher yield for Į-naphthol although the
2
conversion of naphthalene is low because the conduction band
electrons are trapped and the charge pair recombination is
reduced while interfacial electron transfer is promoted, which
can prevent the peroxide and mineralizing reactions. These
factors benefit the hydroxylation of naphthalene.

Conclusions
The photocatalytic synthesis of Į-naphthol from naphtha-
lene under various conditions was studied. The role of con-
duction band electron acceptors was critical in determining

conversions and yields. The addition of Fe + H O in a TiO
2
