  • Uses Selenium sulfide is used as an antifungal agent to treat dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, eborrhea and tinea versicolor. It is the active component in shampoos as an antifungal agent. Antifungal; antiseborrheic.
  • Indications Selenium sulfide suspension (Selsun) is a mixture of selenium monosulfide and a suspension of solid selenium and amorphous sulfur. Selenium acts by inhibiting cellular proliferation, kills yeast organisms, and has high substantivity. Little or no toxicity has been observed when applied directly to normal skin or hair, but these products should not be used on inflamed or exudative skin, where absorption may be increased. They are used in the control of seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, and tinea versicolor.
Technology Process of Selenium disulfide

There total 3 articles about Selenium disulfide which guide to synthetic route it. The literature collected by LookChem mainly comes from the sharing of users and the free literature resources found by Internet computing technology. We keep the original model of the professional version of literature to make it easier and faster for users to retrieve and use. At the same time, we analyze and calculate the most feasible synthesis route with the highest yield for your reference as below:

synthetic route:
Guidance literature:
In further solvent(s); soln. of SeCl4 in liquid H2S, thiohydrolysis;; formation of sulfide;;
Guidance literature:
With barium(II) chloride; In water; satn. of an aq. BaCl2 soln. with H2S; further introduction of H2S and slow addition of H2SeO3 soln. with vigorous stirring; high local excess of H2SeO3 soln. should be avoided (danger of sol formation);;
Guidance literature:
In gas; evaporation of Se in inert atmosphere and reaction of the vapor with S at about 700°C;;
