Electrochemical behaviour of 1-anilinomalonyl-3-methyl-4-(substituted benzeneazo) -5- pyrazolones

Electrochemical reduction of 1-anilinomalonyl-3-methyl-4-(substituted benzeneazo)-5-pyrazolones (Ia-d) has been carried out in Britton-Robinson buffers in the pH range of 2-10.All the compounds give single, well-defined, diffusion-controlled, irreversible reduction wave at d.m.e. and well-defined cathodic peak at hanging drop mercury electrode.Based on the results obtained from polarography, cyclic voltammetry and microcoulometry, a plausible mechanism has been suggested.
