The present invention discloses applications of iridium oxide nanoparticles as a photothermal conversion material. The applications of IrO1.59 nanoparticles are in at least one of the following 1)-2):1) being used as a photothermal conversion material; and 2) preparing a photothermal conversion material. The IrO1.59 nanoparticles are prepared by the following steps: trivalent iridium ions and soluble bases are subjected to co-precipitation and redox reaction in water, after the reaction, centrifugal separation is performed to obtain the IrO1.59 nanoparticles. The preparation method of the IrO1.59 nanoparticles is low in costs, simple and versatile. The quickly prepared IrO1.59 nanoparticle photothermal conversion material has good molar extinction coefficient and photothermal conversion efficiency; and besides, the iridium oxide nanoparticles have relatively small volume, can be loaded into other materials and have a very good application prospect in tumor treatment and other fields.
