, p. 417 - 424 (2007/10/02)
The reaction products of the aldol reaction of acetal-protected glycolaldehyde 2 with KOH or NaOH as catalysts have been characterized as their O-methyl-O-tritylalditol derivatives by a newly developed sugar analysis procedure. The products are compared to reference substances of defined configurations which have been synthesized for the first time from sugar alcohols.Besides allose as the main product, mannose and threose are formed in the aldolization reaction. The exact composition of the carbohydrate mixture is detected by only one HPL chromatogramm. --- Key Words: Aldehydes, α-alkoxy / Aldolization, stereoselective
