The benzylidene complex (CO)5W=C(Ph)H reacts with the thioketones S=CR2 (2) (R = Ph (a), C6H4OMe-p (b)), by formal addition of the thioketone to the carbene carbon atom and cyclization, to give the thiirane complexes (3). 3a is also formed in the reaction of (CO)5W with diphenyldiazomethane. The triirane in 3b can be cleaved intact from the metal with NEt4Br/CH2Cl2 or pyridine/THF.
