179463-17-3 Usage

Description

Cancidas, also known as Caspofungin, is an antifungal compound belonging to the echinocandin class. It is a water-soluble, stable, aza-substituted semisynthetic derivative of pneumocandin B, a fermentation product of the fungus Zalerion arboricola. Cancidas acts by noncompetitively inhibiting the enzyme 1,3-β glucan synthase, which prevents the synthesis of glucan in the fungal cell wall. This leads to the specific lysis of pathogenic fungal cells, making it fungicidal rather than fungistatic. Cancidas is effective against a range of Candida species, including those resistant to azole and amphotericin B, as well as against Aspergillus, an important pathogen not susceptible to fluconazole.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Cancidas is used as an antifungal agent for the treatment of invasive fungal infections, particularly in patients who are refractory to or intolerant of other antifungal therapies such as amphotericin-B1 lipid formulation of amphotericin-B and/or itraconazole. It is effective against a range of Candida species and Aspergillus, an important pathogen not susceptible to fluconazole.
Used in Medical Treatment:
Cancidas is used as a treatment for invasive aspergillosis and candidiasis in patients who have not responded well to other antifungal medications. It has a half-life in humans of around 10 hours and does not inhibit cytochrome P450, making it a safer option for patients with specific medical conditions.
Used in Research and Development:
Cancidas is used in research and development for the study of fungal cell wall synthesis and the development of new antifungal agents. Its unique mechanism of action and effectiveness against resistant strains make it a valuable tool in the fight against invasive fungal infections.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Caspofungin is an echinocandin antifungal that inhibits 1,3-β-D-glucan synthase, which is required for cell wall synthesis, thereby disturbing the integrity of the fungal cell wall.

Veterinary Drugs and Treatments

Caspofungin has potential for treating invasive aspergillosis or disseminated candidal infections in companion animals although little, if any, information on its use in dogs or cats is available.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 179463-17-3 includes 9 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 6 digits, 1,7,9,4,6 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 7 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 179463-17:
(8*1)+(7*7)+(6*9)+(5*4)+(4*6)+(3*3)+(2*1)+(1*7)=173
173 % 10 = 3
So 179463-17-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
