It is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis, particularly in the production of polyurethane foams and coatings. Thallium(I) 2-ethylhexanoate is also used as a heat stabilizer for PVC and as a crosslinking agent in the production of polyolefin resins. However, thallium and its compounds are highly toxic and exposure to them can cause severe health effects, including damage to the nervous system, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract, as well as hair loss and skin problems.
