2312-35-8 Usage

Description

Propargite is a dark-colored liquid pesticide, primarily used as a miticide and acaricide. It is available in the form of a wettable powder or water emulsifiable liquid. Propargite can cause illness through inhalation, skin absorption, and/or ingestion, and poses a significant threat to the environment due to its potential to contaminate soil and water sources. It is practically insoluble in water.

Uses

Used in Agricultural Industry:
Propargite is used as a miticide and acaricide for controlling mite infestations on various crops, including cotton, corn, grapes, walnuts, almonds, nectarines, and mint. It is also used on non-food sites and ornamentals.
Used in Pest Control:
Propargite is employed as a pesticide to manage mite populations on a variety of bearing and non-bearing food crops. It is a U.S. EPA restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) and is pending for use in EU countries.
Used in Fruit and Vegetable Production:
Propargite is used as an acaricide for fruits, vegetables, and row crops to protect them from mite damage and ensure a healthy yield.
General Application:
The pesticide omite, a form of Propargite, principally acts as an irritant and has been reported to cause contact dermatitis in agricultural workers. Immediate steps should be taken to limit Propargite's spread to the environment to minimize its impact on ecosystems and human health.

Air & Water Reactions

Practically insoluble in water (10.5 mg/L). Slowly reacts with water to form sulfur dioxide and alcohols; reaction is more rapid under basic or acidic conditions.

Reactivity Profile

Propargite is a sulfite ester. As an ester, Propargite will hydrolyze to form sulfur dioxide and alcohols; reaction is more rapid under basic conditions. Propargite may react exothermically with acids to generate alcohols. Heat will be generated by interaction with basic or caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing with alkali metals and hydrides.

Health Hazard

INHALATION: Irritation of mucous membranes. EYES: Irritation, may be severe. SKIN: Irritation.

Flammability and Explosibility

Nonflammable

Contact allergens

The pesticide omite principally acts as an irritant. Contact dermatitis was reported in 40 of 47 agricultural workers using Omite?.

Safety Profile

Poison by skin contact. Moderately toxic by ingestion. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of SOx. See also ESTERS and SULFUROUS ACID.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 2312-35-8 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 2,3,1 and 2 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 5 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 2312-35:
(6*2)+(5*3)+(4*1)+(3*2)+(2*3)+(1*5)=48
48 % 10 = 8
So 2312-35-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
