Description
FORMALDEHYDE, [14C] is a radioactive form of formaldehyde, a colorless, flammable gas with a strong, pungent odor. It is primarily used in research to track the movement and metabolism of formaldehyde in biological systems due to its radioactive nature, and is commonly used as a disinfectant, preservative, and key ingredient in the production of various industrial and consumer products.
Uses
Used in Research Applications:
FORMALDEHYDE, [14C] is used as a research tool for tracking the movement and metabolism of formaldehyde in biological systems. Its radioactive nature allows scientists to monitor its behavior within organisms, providing valuable insights into its interactions and effects.
Used in Controlled Laboratory Settings:
FORMALDEHYDE, [14C] is used as a controlled substance in laboratory settings to study its properties and effects on various biological processes. Due to its radioactive nature, it is not typically found in commercial or consumer products, and proper handling and disposal procedures must be followed to ensure safety and minimize environmental impact.
Used in Industrial and Consumer Product Production:
While the radioactive form of formaldehyde is not used in these applications, the non-radioactive form is a key ingredient in the production of various industrial and consumer products, such as resins, plastics, and textiles. Its use in these applications highlights the versatility and importance of formaldehyde in various industries.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 3046-49-9 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 3,0,4 and 6 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 4 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 3046-49:
(6*3)+(5*0)+(4*4)+(3*6)+(2*4)+(1*9)=69
69 % 10 = 9
So 3046-49-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Carbon-14 labeling of hydrochlorothiazide via [14C]formaldehyde production from [14C]carbon dioxide at ambient temperature
Sandell, Johan
, p. 499 - 500 (2012)
[14C]Formaldehyde was synthesized by reducing 14CO2 at ambient temperature with Schwartz's reagent. The [14C]formaldehyde was then used in the radiosynthesis of high specific activity (2.1 GBq/mmol) [14C]hydrochlorothiazide via cyclization of 4-amino-5-chloro-1,3-benzenedisulfonamide. A synthesis of [ 14C]formaldehyde by reducing 14CO2 at ambient temperature with Schwartz's reagent is described. The [14C] formaldehyde has been applied in the radiosynthesis of high specific activity (2.1 GBq/mmol) [14C]hydrochlorothiazide via cyclization of 4-amino-5-chloro-1,3-benzenedisulfonamide. Copyright

Synthesis and stability of [1,3-14C2]-glyceryl trinitrate
Szammer,Simon-Trompler,Mate,Abermann,Klebovich
, p. 1111 - 1115 (2007/10/02)
The synthesis of [1,3-14C2]-glyceryl trinitrate ([14C]-GTN) labelled with quasi carrier free carbon-14 atom in the 1,3-positions of the molecule was effected in four reaction steps from 14CO2 ( 3,5% overall yield). The chemical and radiochemical purity of [14C]-GTN was found better than 99% controlled by HPLC-Radioactivity Monitor and TLC-Digital Autoradiograph methods. Study of the radiochemical stability in dilute solution at 5 °C shows l:hat the product can be stored at least for a month without detectable decomposition.
