It is soluble in ethanol, acetone, soluble fiber element, and benzene, and slightly soluble in carbon tetrachloride. 4-[(2-methoxy-4-nitrophenyl)azo]-N,N-dimethyl-Benzenamine undergoes color changes in the presence of strong sulfuric acid (turning yellow-brown) and when diluted (emitting a bluish-red color). It also changes color when exposed to sodium hydroxide solution, turning red.
