Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Erythromycin stearate is used as an antibacterial agent for treating a wide range of bacterial infections. Its macrolide structure allows it to target and inhibit bacterial protein synthesis, leading to the eradication of the infection.
Used in Oil Industry:
Erythromycin stearate is used as an oil lubricant and plasticizer, improving the performance and longevity of various oil-based products.
Used in Plastics Industry:
Erythromycin stearate is used as a plasticizer, enhancing the flexibility and durability of plastic materials.
Used in Solvent Industry:
Erythromycin stearate is used as a solvent, providing a medium for dissolving and mixing various substances in chemical processes.

Originator

Erythrocin Stearate,Abbott,US,1952

Manufacturing Process

To a well-stirred solution of 3.18 grams (10.5 mmol) of stearoyl chloride and 1.24 grams (11.0 mmol) of 1-ethylpiperidine in 50 ml of methylene chloride is added 7.20 grams (10.0 mmol) of erythromycin. After a short time complete solution is obtained and stirring is then discontinued. The solution is allowed to stand overnight. The solution is diluted to 250 ml by the addition of methylene chloride and washed three times with 100 ml portions of water followed by two washes with 5% sodium bicarbonate solution. The organic layer is dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and filtered, the solvent being removed under diminished pressure. The product is dried to constant weightat room temperature in a vacuum desiccator.

Therapeutic Function

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 643-22-1 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 6,4 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 643-22:
(5*6)+(4*4)+(3*3)+(2*2)+(1*2)=61
61 % 10 = 1
So 643-22-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
