Usage

General Description

Beta-Methyllevulinic acid is a naturally occurring organic compound that is classified as an amino ketone. It is often used in medicine and dermatology as a topical treatment for conditions like actinic keratosis (a precancerous skin condition) and acne. This acid is an active ingredient in photodynamic therapy where it is applied to the skin and absorbed by the cells. When exposed to certain wavelengths of light, it reacts and produces a form of oxygen that kills the cells. As such, this acid plays a crucial role in photosensitization therapies.
