Description
2,3,4,9-Tetrahydro-1-(trichloromethyl)-1H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole, also known as TaClo, is a neurotoxin that targets dopaminergic and serotonergic neurons. It is structurally similar to the well-known neurotoxin MPTP and is produced by liver enzymes through a catalysis reaction involving trichloroethene and tryptamine. TaClo's ability to destroy dopamine-producing cells makes it a significant molecule in the study of Parkinson's disease.
Uses
Used in Neurological Research:
2,3,4,9-Tetrahydro-1-(trichloromethyl)-1H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole is used as a research tool for studying the mechanisms underlying Parkinson's disease. Its neurotoxic effects on dopaminergic neurons provide valuable insights into the progression of the disease and potential therapeutic interventions.
Used in Drug Development:
TaClo's structural similarity to MPTP makes it a useful compound in the development of drugs aimed at treating Parkinson's disease. By studying the effects of TaClo on dopaminergic neurons, researchers can identify potential drug candidates that may counteract or mitigate the damage caused by such neurotoxins.
Used in Toxicology Studies:
2,3,4,9-Tetrahydro-1-(trichloromethyl)-1H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole is used in toxicology studies to understand the effects of environmental and industrial chemicals on the nervous system. This knowledge can help in the development of safety guidelines and regulations to protect human health from exposure to such toxic substances.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 6649-90-7 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 6,6,4 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 0 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 6649-90:
(6*6)+(5*6)+(4*4)+(3*9)+(2*9)+(1*0)=127
127 % 10 = 7
So 6649-90-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Investigation on Plasma Levels of the Neurotoxin 1-Tricloromethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline after Oral Administration of Chloral Hydrate in Man

Chloral hydrate (CAS 302-17-0) is a widely used hypnotic and sedative agent. It was recently reported in the literature that a neurotoxin, TaClo (1-trichloromethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline), may be formed in vitro from tryptamine (Ta) and chloral (Clo).Intraperitoneal administration of TaClo led to Parkinson-like symptoms in the rat.Hence, the plasma levels of TaClo were determined at various time-ponts in 18 healthy volunteers in two periods each during a bioavailability study of several chloral hydrate preparations. The limit of quantitation for TaClo was 5 ng/ml.No TaClo could be determined in the plasma of the various volunteers following administration of human therapeutic doses of chloral hydrate.Hence, it is unlikely that TaClo will be formed in man after application of therapeutic doses of chloral hydrate to patients. - Keywords: CAS 302-17-0; Chloraldurat; chloral hydrate; neurotoxin; TaClo; 1-trichloromethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline
