Description
Trimetaphan camsilate, also known as (+)-1,3-dibenzyldecahydro-2-oxoimidazo[4,5-c]thieno[1,2-α]-thiolium 2-oxo-10-bornanesulfonate (1:1) (Arfonad), is a pharmaceutical compound consisting of white crystals or a crystalline powder with a bitter taste and a slight odor. It is soluble in water and alcohol but only slightly soluble in acetone and ether. The pH of a 1% aqueous solution is between 5.0 and 6.0. It is defined as the (S)-camphorsulfonate salt of trimethaphan.
Uses
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Trimetaphan camsilate is used as a medication for the treatment of increased intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients undergoing surgery. It acts as a non-selective non-competitive muscarinic antagonist, which helps to reduce the pressure in the eye by blocking the action of acetylcholine on muscarinic receptors.
Additionally, trimetaphan camsilate is used as an anesthetic agent in the medical field. It is particularly useful for patients with heart conditions or those who cannot tolerate other anesthetics due to its non-barbiturate nature and minimal effects on the cardiovascular system.
Used in Research Applications:
In the field of scientific research, trimetaphan camsilate is used as a tool to study the effects of muscarinic antagonists on various physiological processes. It can be employed in experiments to investigate the role of muscarinic receptors in conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other respiratory disorders.
Used in Drug Delivery Systems:
Trimetaphan camsilate can also be utilized in the development of novel drug delivery systems, particularly for targeted drug delivery to specific tissues or organs. Its unique properties, such as solubility in water and alcohol, make it a suitable candidate for formulation in various drug delivery platforms, including nanoparticles and liposomes.
Clinical Use
This ganglionic blocking agent is short acting and isused for certain neurosurgical procedures in which excessivebleeding obscures the operative field. Certain craniotomiesare included among these operations. The actionof the drug is direct vasodilation, and because of its transientaction, it is subject to minute-by-minute control. This fleeting action, however, makes it useless for hypertensivecontrol. The drug is ineffective when given orally. The usual route of administration is intravenous.Trimethaphan camsylate is indicated in the treatment ofhypertensive emergencies to reduce blood pressure rapidly. These emergencies may include pulmonary hypertensionassociated with systemic hypertension and acutedissecting aneurysm.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 68-91-7 includes 5 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 2 digits, 6 and 8 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 68-91:
(4*6)+(3*8)+(2*9)+(1*1)=67
67 % 10 = 7
So 68-91-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
