Description
Beta-Cyclodextrin hydrate, also known as β-Cyclodextrin (β-CD), is a macrocyclic oligosaccharide belonging to the cyclodextrin family. It is composed of seven D-glucose units connected via α(1→4) glycosidic bonds, forming a torus-shaped ring configuration with a nonpolar, hydrophobic cavity and a polar, hydrophilic exterior. This unique structure allows it to form inclusion complexes with various organic and inorganic compounds, making it a versatile molecule in pharmaceutical research and chemical applications.
Uses
Used in Pharmaceutical Research:
Beta-Cyclodextrin hydrate is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate for improving the aqueous solubility of various compounds, particularly those containing a phenyl group. Its ability to form inclusion complexes with these compounds enhances their solubility in water, which is crucial for drug delivery and absorption.
Used in Chemical Reagents:
As a chemical reagent, beta-Cyclodextrin hydrate is utilized in the formation of clathrates and for the production of water-soluble complexes with compounds like dansyl chloride. This application is particularly useful in the fluorescent labeling of proteins, which is an important technique in biochemistry and molecular biology.
Used in Drug Delivery Systems:
Beta-Cyclodextrin hydrate is employed in the development of novel drug delivery systems to enhance the bioavailability and therapeutic outcomes of various drugs. Its ability to form inclusion complexes with drugs can improve their stability, solubility, and controlled release, making it a valuable component in the design of advanced drug delivery systems.
Purification Methods
Recrystallise β-cyclodextrin from water and dry it for 12hours in a vacuum at 110o, or 24hours in a vacuum at 70o. The purity is assessed by TLC on cellulose containing a fluorescent indicator. Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 68168-23-0 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 6,8,1,6 and 8 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 68168-23:
(7*6)+(6*8)+(5*1)+(4*6)+(3*8)+(2*2)+(1*3)=150
150 % 10 = 0
So 68168-23-0 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
