BIRCH-ME, also known as Wintergreen essential oil, is a colorless, yellowish, or reddish liquid derived from the leaves of Gaultheria procumbens and the bark of Betula lenta. It is characterized by its strong, sweet, and aromatic odor, which is reminiscent of its main constituent, methyl salicylate. Wintergreen oil is soluble in alcohol and glacial acetic acid, and it is very slightly soluble in water. It decomposes upon boiling, with a range of 219 to 224°C.
