Description
Ethyl 2,3,6,6-tetramethylcyclohex-2-ene-1-carboxylate is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a rosy, spicy, fruity, and woody odor. It is a mixture of isomers with a boiling point of 102°C at 0.8 kPa and a refractive index of 1.4626. It is prepared by treating 3,6-dimethyl-6-hepten-2-one and 7-methyl-6-octen-3-one with ethyl diethylphosphoryl acetate to give a mixture of octadienoic acid esters, followed by cyclization with sulfuric/formic acid to yield the title compounds as a mixture with additional isomers.
