Cyanine dyes containing two trifluoromethyl or perfluoropolymethylene groups at the β,δ positions of the polymethine chain were synthesized.The introduction of these substituents leads to deepening of the color.Merocyanine dyes containing these groups in the chain exhibit considerable negative solvatochromism.
