As part of the chemical waste Project-Environment Programme, leaching experiments have been carried out on 1,3,5-Trichlorobenzene (cas 108-70-3) solidified in cement. The release of 1,3,5-TCB in water has been observed to be almost constant over a period of 100 days and the maximum amount leached out is 40 μg/400 ml at 50°C. As far as release of calcium is concerned, it follows a double diffusion mechanism as previously observed. In addition, physical tests have been carried out on cement blending variable amounts of 1,3,5-TCB. The results concerning the compressive strength, densities and porosity of cement containing 1,3,5-TCB are reported and discussed.
