Description
Ceftiofur hydrochloride, also known as ceftiofur, is a semisynthetic, beta-lactamase-stable, broad-spectrum, third-generation cephalosporin with potent antibacterial activity. It is the hydrochloride salt form of ceftiofur, characterized by its off-white solid appearance. Ceftiofur binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall, which are crucial for the assembly and maintenance of the cell wall structure. This action leads to the weakening of the bacterial cell wall, ultimately causing cell lysis. The brand name for ceftiofur hydrochloride in the US is Excenel.
Uses
Used in Veterinary Medicine:
Ceftiofur hydrochloride is used as an antibacterial agent for the treatment of various respiratory diseases in animals. It has been approved for use in many species, including swine.
Used in Swine Respiratory Disease Treatment:
In the context of swine respiratory disease, ceftiofur hydrochloride is used as a therapeutic agent to combat respiratory infections. The recommended dosage regimen for this application is 3–5 mg/kg body weight (BW) administered intramuscularly once daily for 3–5 consecutive days. This treatment helps in managing and controlling the spread of respiratory diseases among swine populations.
Veterinary Drugs and Treatments
In swine, ceftiofur HCl injection is labeled for the treatment and
control of swine bacterial respiratory disease (swine bacterial
pneumonia) associated with Actinobacillus (Haemophilus) pleuropneumoniae,
Pasteurella multocida, Salmonella choleraesuis and
Streptococcus suis.
In cattle, ceftiofur HCl is labeled for the treatment of the following
bacterial diseases: Bovine respiratory disease (BRD, shipping
fever, pneumonia) associated with Mannheimia haemolytica,
Pasteurella multocida, and Histophilus somni; Acute bovine interdigital
necrobacillosis (foot rot, pododermatitis) associated with
Fusobacterium necrophorum and Bacteroides melaninogenicus; and
acute metritis (0 – 14 days post-partum) associated with bacterial
organisms susceptible to ceftiofur.
The intramammary syringe for dry dairy cattle (Spectramast
DC?) is labeled for the treatment of subclinical mastitis in dairy
cattle at the time of dry off associated with Staphylococcus aureus,
Streptococcus dysgalactiae, and Streptococcus uberis. The intramammary
syringe for lactating dairy cattle (Spectramast LC?) is labeled
for the treatment of clinical mastitis in lactating dairy cattle associated
with coagulase-negative staphylococci, Streptococcus dysgalactiae,
and Escherichia coli.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 103980-44-5 includes 9 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 6 digits, 1,0,3,9,8 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 4 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 103980-44:
(8*1)+(7*0)+(6*3)+(5*9)+(4*8)+(3*0)+(2*4)+(1*4)=115
115 % 10 = 5
So 103980-44-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
