Description

Antimycin A is a complex of related macrocyclic lactones, predominantly A1 to A4, isolated from several species of Streptomyces. It is a crystalline solid with potent antifungal activity and is known for its ability to bind to cytochrome C reductase at the Qi site, inhibiting the oxidation of ubiquinol to ubiquinone. Antimycin A has over 20 known analogues and is widely used as a bioprobe of respiration.

Uses

Used in Antifungal Applications:
Antimycin A is used as an antifungal agent for its potent antifungal activity, particularly against various fungal species. It is effective in controlling fungal infections and is registered as a pesticide in the U.S.
Used in Agricultural Industry:
Antimycin A is used as a fungicide, piscicide, and potentially as an insecticide and miticide in the agricultural industry. As a U.S. EPA restricted Use Pesticide (RUP), it plays a crucial role in controlling pests and maintaining crop health.
Used in Biochemical Research:
Antimycin A is used as a bioprobe of respiration in biochemical research. It helps scientists study the specific sites of reactive oxygen species production in mitochondria and their relationship with local oxidative stress induced by exercise.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Antimycin A is used in the pharmaceutical industry for its antiviral properties and its ability to interfere with cytochrome oxidation. It has potential applications in the development of new drugs targeting viral infections and other related conditions.

Fire Hazard

When heated to decomposition, ANTIMYCIN A emits toxic fumes of oxides of nitrogen.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 1397-94-0 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 1,3,9 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 1397-94:
(6*1)+(5*3)+(4*9)+(3*7)+(2*9)+(1*4)=100
100 % 10 = 0
So 1397-94-0 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
