2363-58-8 Usage

Description

Epitiostanol, also known as an anabolic steroid, is a compound that exhibits a wide range of biological activities, including androgenic, myogenic, anabolic, anticatabolic, progestational, deciduomatogenic, and antiestrogenic properties. It is particularly recognized for its anti-estrogen and anti-mammary cancer agent capabilities, making it a valuable substance in the pharmaceutical and medical fields.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Epitiostanol is used as an anabolic steroid for promoting muscle growth and strength, as well as for its androgenic effects that contribute to the development of male characteristics. Its myogenic and anabolic properties make it a potential candidate for treating conditions related to muscle wasting or weakness.
Used in Oncology:
Epitiostanol is used as an anti-estrogen agent for the treatment of mammary or breast cancer. Its antiestrogenic activities help in counteracting the effects of estrogen, which can contribute to the growth and progression of certain types of breast cancer.
Used in Sports Medicine:
Epitiostanol is used as a performance-enhancing drug for athletes seeking to improve their muscle mass, strength, and overall performance. Its anabolic and androgenic properties can provide significant benefits in this context, although the use of anabolic steroids in sports is often controversial and subject to regulation.
Used in Hormone Therapy:
Epitiostanol is used as a hormone therapy agent for conditions that require the modulation of androgen or estrogen levels in the body. Its antiestrogenic properties can be particularly useful in managing hormone-related disorders or symptoms.

Originator

Thiodrol,Shionogi,Japan,1977

Manufacturing Process

A solution of 2β-thiocyanato-3α-methanesulfonyloxy-5α-androstan-17β-ol 17- acetate (0.82 part by weight) and potassium hydroxide (0.9 part by weight) in diglyme (20 parts by volume) is refluxed on a water bath for 24 hours while stirring. To the reaction mixture, there is added water, and the separated substance is collected by filtration and crystallized from hexane to give 2β,3β- epithio-5α-androstan-17β-ol (0.60 part by weight) as crystals melting at 132.5°C to 134°C.

Therapeutic Function

Antineoplastic

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 2363-58-8 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 2,3,6 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 2363-58:
(6*2)+(5*3)+(4*6)+(3*3)+(2*5)+(1*8)=78
78 % 10 = 8
So 2363-58-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
