The treatment of easily accessible o-(1-hydroxy-2-alkynyl)-N-tosylanilides 1 with excess manganese(IV) oxide in the presence of substoichiometric tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) in chloroform (or in the absence of TBAI in dimethylformamide, DMF) promoted a sequential oxidation/intramolecular hydroamination to give 4-quinolones 3 and/or (Z)-2-alkylidene-3-oxindoles (Z)-4 in good yields. Possibly, MnO2 played dual roles as an oxidant and as a Lewis acidic activator of intermediary ynones 2. The product distributions between 3 and (Z)-4 could be controlled by the choice of solvents.
Substituent-Guided Palladium-Ene Reaction for the Synthesis of Carbazoles and Cyclopenta[b]indoles
Yadav, Sonu,Hazra, Raju,Singh, Animesh,Ramasastry
supporting information, p. 2983 - 2987 (2019/05/10)
An efficient palladium-catalyzed intramolecular Trost-Oppolzer type Alder-ene strategy was developed for the synthesis of carbazoles and cyclopenta[b]indoles from easily accessible(3-allyl-1H-indol-2-yl)methyl acetates. This strategy was extended for the synthesis of naphthalenes and dibenzobenzofurans as well. In addition, a short synthesis of antibacterial and antifungal natural product glycozoline and its analogues was also achieved.
Synthesis of polysubstituted cyclopenta[b]indoles via relay gold(i)/Bronsted acid catalysis
Dhiman, Seema,Ramasastry
supporting information, p. 557 - 560 (2015/01/09)
An efficient relay catalytic process involving Au(i)/Bronsted acid to access various polysubstituted cyclopentannulated indoles from easily accessible 1-(2-aminophenyl)prop-2-ynols and readily available 1,3-dicarbonyls has been developed. In an unprecedented event, the intermediate 2-indolylmethyl cations undergo the cation-Ene reaction with various 1,3-dicarbonyls followed by an intramolecular Friedel-Crafts-type reaction generating functionalized cyclopenta[b]indoles.
