354-48-3 Usage
Description
1,1,1-Tribromotrifluoroethane, with the chemical formula C2HBr3F3, is a colorless liquid at room temperature. It has a boiling point of 47 degrees Celsius and is known for its use as a fire extinguishing agent and in some older refrigeration systems as a refrigerant. However, due to its potent ozone-depleting properties and harmful environmental effects, it has been phased out in many countries and is considered a hazardous air pollutant, regulated by government agencies. Exposure to 1,1,1-tribromotrifluoroethane can cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system, with prolonged exposure potentially leading to more serious health effects.
Uses
Used in Fire Extinguishing Industry:
1,1,1-Tribromotrifluoroethane is used as a fire extinguishing agent for its ability to suppress fires effectively. It is particularly useful in situations where water or other extinguishing agents may not be suitable or could cause further damage.
Used in Refrigeration Industry (Older Systems):
In some older refrigeration systems, 1,1,1-tribromotrifluoroethane was used as a refrigerant due to its cooling properties. However, its use has been largely phased out due to environmental concerns and the development of more eco-friendly alternatives.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 354-48-3 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 3,5 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 4 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 354-48:
(5*3)+(4*5)+(3*4)+(2*4)+(1*8)=63
63 % 10 = 3
So 354-48-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

The catalytic olefination reaction of aldehydes and ketones with CBr 3CF3

, p. 907 - 913 (2007/10/03)
The new approach of catalytic olefination reaction (COR) has been used to convert aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes and ketones to 2-bromo-3,3,3- trifluoroprop-1-enes by the treatment of corresponding hydrazones with CBr 3CF3 under copper(I) catalysis conditions. The reaction proceeds stereoselectively, the target alkenes were obtained in good yields.
